The Volkswagen Touareg has been named Best Large Crossover of the Year at the 2019 Irish Car of the Year awards, in association with Continental Tyres.
The VW Touareg is packed with driver assist features and safety equipment including Dynamic Light Assist and four cameras to show what is happening around the vehicle. A rear-view camera system is optional, while the Touareg also features Blue Light Technology designed to improve efficiency and reduce fuel consumption.
Runners-up in this year’s Large Crossover category included the BMW X4, Hyundai Santa Fe and Porsche Cayenne.
We enlisted Car of the Year jurors Mark Gallivan and Bob Flavin to take a close look at the new Touareg. In our latest video review, Mark marvels at the huge generation leap that impressed the judges, while Bob pays tribute to the “premium line” VW’s driving dynamics.
“The Touareg is the premium line when it comes to what Volkswagen try to do with their cars,” says Bob Flavin. “This is a technological marvel, huge screen in the middle, it every piece of safety equipment – and more – that you need from a car in this class, and it has got all of the five stars from the NCAP.
“With cars like this, you want to be able to take it off road should you need to, and of course the Touareg can do that. A full four-wheel drive and good driving dynamics means you can take this up a mountain or down to the shops whenever you need to.”
“For the Irish Car of the Year 2019, the VW Touareg was in a category of just four cars,” notes Mark Gallivan. “What impressed the judges most was the new cabin, the new interior, the level of standard equipment and the fact that it was such a large generation leap.”
